Rail-EZ with Cantilever Umbrellas

Rail-EZ with Cantilever Umbrellas

Most cantilever umbrellas work with Rail-EZ. Here's how to know if yours does.

MOST CANTILEVER UMBRELLAS WORK WITH RAIL-EZ — NO GIANT BASE REQUIRED.

Is that massive base taking over your deck? Rail-EZ clamps directly to your railing and holds your cantilever umbrella pole securely — no fill weight, no footprint, no toe-stubbing.

Watch how it works

Does Rail-EZ work with cantilever or offset umbrellas?

Cantilever (also called offset) umbrellas have a side pole that extends out at an angle, with the canopy hanging over your space. They're great for covering larger areas — but their traditional bases are enormous, heavy, and take up massive amounts of deck or patio space. And don't get us started on the toe-stubbing.

Rail-EZ solves this. Instead of a bulky 80 lb base sitting on your deck, Rail-EZ mounts your cantilever umbrella pole directly to your railing — in about 10 minutes. No base. No fill weight. No giant footprint.

Compatible with most cantilever umbrellas. For most setups, no drilling is required. If you have a very large canopy or live in a particularly windy area, you have the option to secure the crossbar support to the deck with two screws — but that's it. Two screws, not an 80 lb base.

How It Works

How Rail-EZ Works with a Cantilever Umbrella

1
Use one of the crossbar supports that came with your cantilever umbrella

Your cantilever umbrella will come with 2 cross bars to create a large X base. You only need one for this setup. This bar will act as addition support to stop lateral movement.

2
Position the cross bar parallel to the railing

Tighten the pole in the umbrellas base and position it so the single cross bar is running parallel to the railing. This uses more of the deck surface and provides additional stability.

3
Use the Rail-EZ to lock your umbrella pole in place

Position the cantilever pole in the front load holder and lock the pole in place. This creates a secure mounting point, giving you a rock-solid setup without the need for a huge base, sandbags, or water weights. *Note* If you are in an area with high winds, you may want to bolt the single crossbar to the deck for extra stability.

Cantilever Umbrella Types That Won't Work with Rail-EZ

Cantilever umbrella that won't work with Rail-EZ

❌ Pole too large or too small

Large oval or square poles or round poles bigger than 2" in diameter are not compatible with the Rail-EZ. These tend to be the more expensive $350-$700 Cantilever Umbrellas and require a custom base solution.

Thicker railings (up to 4"): add Height Extension Plate
Wider railings (over 6"): add Width Extension Plate
A note on railings and wind:

Cantilever umbrellas are bigger and heavier than standard umbrellas, and they sit near the upper end of the Rail-EZ system's capacity range. Rail-EZ is up to the task, but your railing needs to be too. Make sure it's solid, stable, and in good condition before mounting any large umbrella to it. A wobbly railing is a wobbly foundation regardless of what's attached to it.

For extra peace of mind with larger canopies, secure the crossbar base to the deck with two screws. It takes two minutes and makes a noticeable difference.

And like any umbrella, close it in high winds or when you're not around. No umbrella stand or mounting system eliminates wind risk for an open umbrella.
