Most cantilever umbrellas work with Rail-EZ. Here's how to know if yours does.
Is that massive base taking over your deck? Rail-EZ clamps directly to your railing and holds your cantilever umbrella pole securely — no fill weight, no footprint, no toe-stubbing.
Watch how it works
Cantilever (also called offset) umbrellas have a side pole that extends out at an angle, with the canopy hanging over your space. They're great for covering larger areas — but their traditional bases are enormous, heavy, and take up massive amounts of deck or patio space. And don't get us started on the toe-stubbing.
Rail-EZ solves this. Instead of a bulky 80 lb base sitting on your deck, Rail-EZ mounts your cantilever umbrella pole directly to your railing — in about 10 minutes. No base. No fill weight. No giant footprint.
Compatible with most cantilever umbrellas. For most setups, no drilling is required. If you have a very large canopy or live in a particularly windy area, you have the option to secure the crossbar support to the deck with two screws — but that's it. Two screws, not an 80 lb base.
This is the most common cantilever umbrella with a canopy 9–13 ft. It costs around $150-$250 and works perfectly with Rail-EZ. It is a single offset pole no bigger than 2 inches in diameter and comes with cross bar base included.
This is similar to the other cantilever umbrella, just a bit fancier with lights however it has a pole no larger than 2 inches in diameter and comes with the cross bar base.
Large oval or square poles or round poles bigger than 2" in diameter are not compatible with the Rail-EZ. These tend to be the more expensive $350-$700 Cantilever Umbrellas and require a custom base solution.
Cantilever umbrellas with curved poles do not work with Rail-EZ. They require the manufacturer-supplied base.
Oversized or commercial umbrellas may exceed specs. Contact us before purchasing to confirm.
Cantilever umbrellas are bigger and heavier than standard umbrellas, and they sit near the upper end of the Rail-EZ system's capacity range. Rail-EZ is up to the task, but your railing needs to be too. Make sure it's solid, stable, and in good condition before mounting any large umbrella to it. A wobbly railing is a wobbly foundation regardless of what's attached to it.
For extra peace of mind with larger canopies, secure the crossbar base to the deck with two screws. It takes two minutes and makes a noticeable difference.
And like any umbrella, close it in high winds or when you're not around. No umbrella stand or mounting system eliminates wind risk for an open umbrella.
